Run For Ross 5k Draws Nearly 160 Participants

On October 21, members of the East End community came out to test their endurance and show their support for Ross at the School’s first annual Run for Ross 5k. This fun and exciting event attracted almost 160 runners and raised over $5,600. Held at Main Beach in East Hampton, the 5K run/walk welcomed participants of all ages, not to mention several four-legged ones.

The beautiful fall morning commenced with a favorite Ross School wellness tradition, Tai Chi, led by Ross Wellness Teacher Megan Chaskey on the beach. With Main Beach as the backdrop, runners lined up for a 10am start. The flat course ran along a prime oceanfront and hedge-lined estate section of East Hampton, and the race was professionally timed by Island Timing.

Post-race festivities took place in the beach pavilion where finishers refreshed with water from Hamptons Water Company, and local apples and apple cider from the Milk Pail. Ross Athletic Director Jaye Cohen presented awards for first, second, and third place age group finishers as well as overall male and female. In addition, all 10 and under participants received a medal for participating.

“We were thrilled to have so many people from the community come out to run and support Ross. It was such a wonderful day—we couldn’t have asked for better weather—and it was so nice to watch everyone cross the finish line,” said Courtney Wingate, Associate Director of Development.

All proceeds will go directly to the Ross School Annual Giving campaign, which supports programs and needs throughout the School. Runners 10 and under were encouraged to donate food for the East Hampton Food Pantry in lieu of an entry fee.
