Bill O'Reilly Buys 1.5 Acres of Oceanfront for $8.5 Million

The existing 600-square-foot cottage has already been razed.

Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly bought a 600-square-foot summer cottage on the ocean in Montauk for $8.5 million, Town & Country Real Estate confirmed Thursday.

"The O'Reilly Factor" host had been rumored to be the purchaser of the former Abbey property, on Old Montauk Highway, which is situated on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by acres of natural preserve. The 1940s classic shingled cottage has been torn down to make way for a custom built home.

Theresa Eurell, the manager of the Montauk office of Town & Country who was the listing agent, said many in Montauk feel the loss of what was described as an "iconic bungalow."

"As a Montauk native who has always admired the Abbey property, along with many other locals, it was sad to see the structures come down," she said.

No word on how big a house O'Reilly is planning, but the property is about 1.5 acres, though it's unclear how much of the property can be built on.
