Working Families Party Endorses Dems Town Board Slate

Kathee Burke-Gonzalez and Job Potter receive nods from Working Families Party.

Democratic candidates for town board, as well as justice and assessorm nabbed another party line for the November 2013 election.

The Working Families Party endorsed Kathee Burke-Gonzalez and Job Potter for town board, Steven Tekulsky for Town Justice, and Eugene DePasquale for Town Assessor. Larry Cantwell also received the party's cross-endorsement for supervisor — to date, no Republican candidate has stepped forward at all.

The party also cross-endorsed three Democratic candidates for town trustees; Bill Taylor, Deborah Klughers and Cathy Rogers.

It was also not immediately clear if the Working Families Party endorsed Republican candidates, such as candidates for town trustees. Incumbent Highway Superintendent Stephen Lynch, whom the Democrats and Independence parties cross-endorsed, and Carole Brennan, who also received the support from all three major parties, have no challengers.

A leading member of the party did not immediately respond for comment.

“This is a tribute to the hard work of our candidates," Jeanne Frankl, chairwoman of the East Hampton Democratic Committee said. "Our candidates have an affinity for working families and an understanding of what they go through raising their children and dealing with an up and down economy on the East End."

Cantwell was also pleased with the announcement, which the Democrats made on Friday. “We live in a diverse town and in many ways, the working class families of East Hampton are the backbone of the community," he said.

While Cantwell has no opponent, Burke-Gonzalez and Potter are running against incumbent Dominick Stanzione and Fred Overton, who have the Republican and Independence party lines.

Tekulsky is facing off against Republican nominee for justice, Carl Irace, whom the Independence party also endorsed. Joseph Bloecker is running against DePasquale on the Republican and Independence lines.
