With 2 Weeks Left Until Election, 2 Debates Left on South Fork

State senatorial and U.S. congressional debates scheduled in East Hampton and Bridgehampton before Election Day.

Election Day is right around the corner — Nov. 6 — but there are still several opportunities on the South Fork to ask questions and listen to the political opponents spar.

The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will host a New York State Senate debate between Democratic candidate Bridget Fleming, of Noyac, who is also a Southampton Town councilwoman, and Republican incumbent Sen. Kenneth LaValle, of Port Jefferson, on Monday at the East Hampton Fire Department at 7 p.m.

East Hampton Town’s LTV will tape and air the debate.

A congressional debate, hosted by two business groups, will be held at the Bridgehampton Community House on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.

The East Hampton Business Alliance and Southampton Business Alliance are hosting the question-and-answer session with Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, and Republican challenger Randy Altschuler, of St. James. Questions will be submitted by the business community.

“While other events of this type ask good general questions, this is a unique format geared specifically to topics of importance to East End businesses," said Southampton Business Alliance President Aram Terchunian, adding that the next congressman for the First Congressional District will make decisions that directly affect the local economy.

Cook Maran & Associates and King Kullen are sponsoring the event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Also on the South Fork, the Concerned Citizens of Montauk will hold a "Meet the Candidates Forum" at the Montauk Fire Department on Oct. 28. The forum will cover federal and state races, and will be televised. There will also be opportunities for the public to ask questions of the candidates.
