Village Notes: New Member Joins Board, Vets Honored

Hurricane Irene damages dealt with during Friday's meeting, too.

In East Hampton Village, those who have serve will not be honored on Veterans Day or with a parade, but rather an entire week.

At the meeting on Friday, Mayor Paul F. Rickenbach Jr. offered proclamations to the in East Hampton and the in Amagansett in support of Veterans Appreciation Week, Nov. 5 through 11.

August Bouker, whose son is the assistant superintendent of highways in the village, accepted the honor on behalf of the VFW. "It's great to see people acknowledge veterans and the ones who are deceased," Bouker said.

The annual parade will take place on Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. "The more who can attend the better," said Trustee Elbert Edwards.

New Guy Joins the Board

Bruce Siska, a newly appointed trustee, joined the board for his first meeting on Friday. Siska, who owns a plumbing business and served on the village zoning board for many years, filled the , who resigned suddenly last month. 

His fellow graduate with the Class of 1959, Hugh King joined the mayor in welcoming Siska to the board by whipping out their yearbook and perusing for Siska's name amongst the popularity lists. "The good news is that Trustee Siska was wise enough to marry Mary Talmage who was voted most sincere," King said. King himself was "Best all around."

Irene Repairs

The village passed two resolutions related to the damages suffered during in August.

Trustees accepted a proposal for $8,700 from Lance Nill, Inc. for the repair of the roof on . Larry Cantwell, the village administrator, said consultant Robert Hefner had recommended copper roof replacement. The village has a $5,000 deductible and Cantwell said the hope is that amount will get picke up by the federal reimbursement package.

The board also deemed a 2006 Polaris ATV damaged beyond repair. Upon the request of beach manager Ed McDonald, the ATV will be disposed of. Cantwell also said the hope is the federal package will cover that, as well.
