Supervisor commends Town Police Officer David Martin for heroism.
East Hampton Town Supervisor Bill Wilkinson presented with a proclamation on Thursday night, honoring his recognition of the 2011 Police Officer of the Year.
Martin, a former Marine lance corporal who has worked on the department for nine years, was honored for his heroism last February when responding to an act of domestic violence in Springs, where .
Chief of Police Ed Ecker joined Wilkinson is commending Martin for saving lives that night. He said Martin's actions prevented "a tragedy that the Town of East Hampton and its citizens would have been talking about for years to come."

Wilkinson said that the incident should serve as a reminder that while East Hampton is generally safe, officers still put their lives on the lines.
Martin was joined at the meeting by his wife Erin and their young son Joseph David.
