UPDATE: State Announces Road Work Will Start on Tuesday

The road work to repair damaged asphalt on portions of Montauk Highway in East Hampton and Water Mill will begin on Tuesday, according to Eileen Peters, a spokeswoman with the State Department of Transportation. As crews work, the highway will be reduced to one-lane near the construction, so drivers can expect minor delays.

The resurfacing project had initially been scheduled to begin on Wednesday, but was postponed due to rain. "The project is very weather dependent," Peters had said when announcing the project last week. The work also has to be completed before the ground freezes, she said.

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., I-Sag Harbor, had urged the D.O.T. to take action on what he has called "the worst spots" of the state road, like in areas need the former Plitt Ford property in Wainscott and Warren's Nursery in Water Mill.

Peters has said that the project should be completed at the end of November.

According to Thiele, here is a full list of the areas that will be addressed:

• Eastbound Route 27 at the former Plitt Ford in Wainscott
• Eastbound Route 27 at Wainscott Northwest Road in Wainscott
• East and Westbound Route 27 at Stephen Hand's Path/Georgica Road in East Hampton
• Eastbound Route 27 at Jericho Road in East Hampton
• East and Westbound Route 27 at Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton
• East and Westbound Route 27 at Baiting Hollow Road/Woods Lane in East Hampton
• Westbound Route 27 at Buells Lane and State Route 114 intersection in East Hampton
• Eastbound Route 27 at Egypt Lane/Accabonac Road in East Hampton
• Eastbound Route 27 at Warrens Nursery in Water Mill
• Eastbound Route 27 at Willow Road in Water Mill
• Eastbound Route 27 at McCoy Real Estate in Bridgehampton
