Republicans' Scallop Dinner Still on Wednesday Night

Fundraiser set for 6 p.m., despite snow storm.

The winter storm isn't deterring East Hampton Republicans — the scallop dinner fundraiser for the trustees is still taking place tonight.

Kurt Kappel, the committee chairman, said of the weather may not be ideal, but they are hopeful Republicans will still come out to support the trustees. The dinner starts at 6 p.m. and is being held at the Highway Diner & Bar in Wainscott.

Joseph Bloecker, a current trustee who is running on the Republican ticket for assessor, just added shrimp and oysters to the clam bar, which is included in the $50 ticket price.

The Republicans will celebrate their candidates, which include Carl Irace for town justice and Dominick Stanzione and Fred Overton for town board.

The full slate will be announced at the end of next week, Kappel said. The committee is waiting to pick four more trustees — and word from Jay Schneiderman on whether he will accept the committee's nomination for supervisor.

At least Joe Bloecker will show up for work everyday - all day. Plus Joe Bloecker is a builder, real estate broker, and has professional knowledge about property and values. Can the Republicans help it if they have skilled people like Joe, Fred Overton, Carole Brennan, and Carl irace who they can run for public service offices?

Wonder if it was a land slide for Blocker in the voting process with the Republican Committee..I would think not bc he ran his mouth a couple of years back bad mouthing the Republican Commitee when they did not back him, and ended up loosing..If i remember he even put out flyer and trashing eveyone on that committee...And by showing up to work everyday, what do u mean by that? Does any of the present town employees not show up to work? If that's the case, someone should look into that

And so the political nastiness begins in our small, wonderful, beautiful Town as people hide behind made up names and lodge personal attacks on those running for office. Joe Bloecker has been doing an outstanding job as an elected Trustee, along with 8 other elected individuals who are there to protect our environment and keep our bays, beaches and some roadways accessible for all of us. It is a wonder that any honest, qualified individuals choose to run at all to serve the public that elects them. It is truly a shame that, for purely political reasons, anonymous insinuations, non-factual assertions, and blogger "trashings" versus 'thank yous" have become the norm when someone wants to step up to serve the public. Or is already doing so.
