If, in fact, misery loves company, then East Hampton residents who are unhappy about the six miles of towering electrical transmission poles that PSEG has been installing from East Hampton Village to Amagansett are feeling the love: citizens of Long Island’s North Shore are equally discomfited about looming poles in their midst.
At issue, per The New York Times, is a five-mile-long stretch of 70-foot-tall power poles—some 220 of them—that PSEG has been putting up from Port Washington to Great Neck.
As in our area, where groups such as Save East Hampton and Long Island Businesses for Responsible Energy have sprung up in opposition to the poles, North Shore residents are worried about the changing landscape of their community.
“We want to protect the identity of the town,” said Sunny Sanghari, 40, who runs the Cigar King shop on Port Washington Boulevard and has two poles right outside his store. “The town should look good, and not ugly like this.”
