National Grid Upgrading East End Homes Through Fall

Utility company asking for residents to set up appointments with contracting company handling the work.

National Grid is seeking the public’s cooperation during its effort to upgrade the gas lines that service homes on both the north and south forks this fall.

As mandated by the New York State Public Service Commission, National Grid will be making changes in the lines from the main in the street all the way to residents’ homes. The upgrades are being done to ensure a safer and more effective flow of gas from the street to customers’ appliances.

To that end National Grid is using its contractor, Asplundh Construction to do the work. Asplundh, in turn, will need access to people’s homes in scattered areas on the east end over the next two months. This means customers will need to be home and will need to allow Asplundh workers inside to relight the appliances when the work is done.

According to National Grid, all Asplundh employees wishing to gain access to your home will be wearing a badge identifying themselves as National Grid contractors. The utility is asking caretakers and homeowners to call Asplundh at (800) 640-2299 in order to make an appointment for the service upgrade.

National Grid stated there are approximately 400-500 jobs to complete from Brookhaven to eastern Long Island, with pockets of 20-30 customers scattered throughout the east end.
