Lisa Grenci decided 15 years was long enough as the chairwoman of the Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee.
Along with Linda Barnds, who has been the secretary just as long, Grenci said she told the other members at Monday night's meeting that she would not seek re-election to head the committee.
Her decision comes in the wake of some speaking to outside officials.
But, Grenci said her decision had nothing to do with the letter Wilkinson sent out last month. "It's just been 15 years and I'm kind of burnt out," she said on Tuesday. She said the previous town boards had often done the same type of thing, though not as harshly. Plus, she said, "I did nothing wrong. I copied Fred [Thiele] on a letter. That's it."
Grenci added that she has been traveling more — as much as six weeks in the summer — and felt the group needed a leader most during the height of Montauk's busy season.
She and Barnes will remain on the committee. Grenci said she is looking forward to being a voting member, again. As the chairwoman, she could not vote.
The committee could re-elect a new chairperson at the next meeting. Grenci said she is forward a list of members to the town board for re-appointment, which is done annually, and anyone interested in taking over her position should contact her. Their name will be forwarded to liaison Dominick Stanzione.
