Know an East Hampton Senior Citizen Who Deserves Recognition?

Nominations open for Suffolk County Senior Citizen Award.

Do you know someone in the Town of East Hampton who deserves to be named the Senior Citizen of the Year in Suffolk County?

County Executive Steve Bellone and the Suffolk County Senior Citizen Advisory Board announced on Friday that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging is accepting nominations The award recognizes someone who is 60 years of age or older who has "significantly contributed to other seniors in a meaningful and important way, either as an advocate, role model, leader, or volunteer," Bellone said in a statement. "This impact can be felt either countywide, or in one of the local communities," he said.

"The East Hampton Department of Human Services is very fortunate to work with numerous outstanding senior citizens who contribute to the community on a daily basis," said Diane Patrizio, the department's director. "An award which will honor one of the many dedicated senior citizens in Suffolk County is wonderful. There are so many notable seniors in today's world, they should be appreciated and celebrated."

Nominations should be made on a specific form, which is attached to this story, as a PDF file below the photo. You must include the nominee’s name, address, and phone number, along with an explanation of why they deserve the nomination. Candidates must be residents of the county. Employees of federal, state, county or local municipalities engaged in providing services to senior citizens are not eligible.

There are only a few weeks left to get in nominations. They must be received no later than March 14.

This winner will be presented with the award at the Senior Celebration Luncheon sponsored by the Office for the Aging and senior citizen advisory board on May 8 at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.
