Jan. 4: The Community Prepares Its Goodbyes to Katy Stewart

The week is a somber one for the South Fork community.

This is a somber week for many on the South Fork as the community prepares its last goodbyes for a young community member who braved illness in a way that's so difficult to even imagine.

1. On behalf of Patch and its staff, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Katy Stewart, the 12 year old Pierson Middle School student who. Her mother, Brigid Collins, is an assistant principal at the , and her father, Jim Stewart, is a teacher at . Services to remember her begin on Tuesday. A  will be held at  from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The entire Stewart family are in our thoughts and prayers. 

2. Erosion during the heavy winter storm after Christmas will surely be the topic of some discussion at the  on Tuesday. The meeting is held at the new  meeting room and begins at 10 a.m.

3. The holidays might be over but the "" shopping campaign continues on Tuesdays. Pick up a savings pass at  and earn 15 percent off at select restaurants and shops. Parking is also suspended in the village lots.

4. The  shops begin their January sale. Clothing, select furniture and more at  and books at  are discounted by 50 percent. The sale runs through Jan. 22.

5.  are held at  in Sag Harbor on Tuesdays in January. David Diskin, who has studied with Zen and Buddhist masters, will lead the circle, which starts at 7:30 p.m.
