Group for Good Government To Hold Wastewater Forum

Forum will provide background and evaluation of all sides.

The East Hampton Group for Good Government will hold a forum on "Exploring an Environmentally and Economically Sustainable Wastewater Management Policy."

It will be held in the Emergency Services Building on March 24 at 2 p.m.

The forum comes on the heels of the about whether to lease, and then sell, the Scavenger Waste Plant to a private company. Some
officials want to sign a contract and others want more time to study the broader issues involved.

"The GGG’s forum is designed to give the public the background information to better understand the issues and evaluate the arguments of both sides," the group said in a statement released earlier this week. The group is non-partisan and has had held public forums on other controversial topics, as well as candidates' forums.

The list of panelists won't be made available until next week, but the group said they "will include people conversant with water issues as well as the practical challenges of wastewater handling." GGG members Steven Schwartz and Ira Bezoza will moderate.

"The forum will seek to be a first step toward developing an environmentally and economically sustainable long term wastewater management plan for the Town, against which background any proper role for the present plant can be evaluated," the group said.

The forum will review new developments in on-site waste water technologies and costs to implement, as well as evaluate the town's 30-year-old septage waste treatment plant.
