Federal Dollars Available To Bury Power Lines To Montauk

Town of East Hampton may have to put up part of the $8 million.

The East Hampton Town board is trying for a federal grant to bury power lines going out to Montauk, according to Newsday.

Newsday reported that the town may have to put up one-fourth of the $8 million cost for the proposed project, but that the grant program was set up to protect infrastructure in danger from storms.

While the board is still undecided about how the town will pay for its portion of the project, and has other concerns, the deadline to file for the federal funding is July 5.
