East Hampton Town Candidates Debate

As a public service, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will be sponsoring a free debate on Monday, October 17, 7 p.m. at the LTV Studios, 75 Industrial Road in Wainscott, to enable voters to hear the candidates for Suffolk County Legislature, East Hampton Town Supervisor and Town Board, and to question them about important issues in the November 8 general election.

First up will be the two candidates for Suffolk County Legislator in the 2nd L.D.—Cornelius Kelly (R) and incumbent Jay Schneiderman (I).

Also invited to debate are the two candidates for East Hampton Town Supervisor—Zachary Cohen (D) and incumbent Bill Wilkinson (R)—and the six candidates for two seats on the East Hampton Town Board—Marilyn Behan (I), Richard Haeg (R), Steven Gaines (R), Bill Mott (I), Sylvia Overby (D) and Peter Van Scoyoc (D).

Candidates for other offices on the November ballot are invited to introduce themselves by name and the office for which they are running.

Format for the debates, moderated by LWV Past President Carol Mellor, consists of the candidates making timed opening and closing statements and answering questions from a panel of local newspaper editors and the League. Included will be questions from the audience.

The debate will be videotaped by LTV for later viewing on East Hampton Town’s public access Channel 20.
