East Hampton Town Launches New Online Code Enforcement Complaint System

Just in time for the unofficial start of summer, the Town of East Hampton Code Enforcement Department has launched an electronic form that offers the public an additional way to file legitimate code-violation complaints. Residents can now lodge complaints by filling out the form online and submitting it directly to a code enforcement officer.

Too many cars in the driveway next door? No need to call the police department anymore you can directly enter the complaint into an efficient online system. To access the form, visit the Town’s website. In the right column, click on “Ordinance Enforcement,”  and then “Complaint Form.”

This new process can be used to immediately report such violations as overcrowding, illegal summer rentals, operating businesses in residential zones, building without building permits, illegal dumping, illegal signs, litter and debris, for example. Noise complaints, however, should still be directed to the Town Police Department at 537-7575.

Once the form is submitted, the sender will receive written confirmation regarding the complaint submission. Town officers will then conduct an investigation of each complaint and will follow up with complainants regarding their determinations.

 “The online complaint system will enhance our ability to address complaints from our residents and it will expedite the process and improve the efficiency of Code Enforcement, Fire Marshals and Building Inspectors,” said Town Director of Public Safety David Betts.

 “We must utilize the technology residents make use of every day so we can improve communications between the public and Town government,” said Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell.

The public may still lodge complaints of Town Code violations in the traditional manner—by calling Code Enforcement (324-3858), the Fire Marshals Office (329-3473) or the Building Department (324-4145) or by visiting one of these departments in person at 300 Pantigo Place.
