Opponents Turns Out in Force Against Cyril's Expansion

Town board is considering a rezone request.

Those who attended an East Hampton Town Board meeting on Thursday night were overwhelmingly against a proposal for Cyril's Fish House to expand onto an adjacent property, according to 27East.

The application is under review by the town board because the proposal also includes rezoning the parcel Cyril's is on and the adjacent property from residential to business.

According to the website, 23 aired their concerns, including environmental impacts and public safety issues, including potential accidents. Patrons at Cyril's often line that area of the Napeague Stretch with cars and overflow from the outdoor bar spill into or close to the highway.

27East also reported that septic waste is also concern.

Parking for 12 more cars will do nothing to mitigate the problems of Cyril's overcrowding and will mow down another parcel of fragile wetland flora. The whole illegal business should move to a more conforming property.

Its called PRE - existing non conforming ... just FYI ; Cyril's is a popular spot in a Highway Hotel zone . Appropriate parking should dominate any expansion effort to help bring it into a more conforming status . As far as the enviromental concerns ; they should NOT be the primary force in this . Safety first ; Cyril can mitigate the environmental issues by beautifying the area as needed take from here .. put more over there .. When there is will there is a way . People need to realize successful business is the economic backbone of a tourist town . The planners should expedite a plan that encourages safety first ; not stonewall his desires .. Public should appreciate his effort to make his establishment safer . Maybe more than 12 spaces are required and maybe some rules enforced requiring strict enforcement abput keeping patrons on the property ... Cyrils should be allowed to go two storys and add deck space in order to accommodate his clients desires to be there . Bigger Building ; more deck space ; more parking ... the works ... Look forward to a BBC there soon ;however he decides. I'd support any idea that promotes business in a proper thoughful layout .. Cyril's is synonomus with great times by anyone who knows .. make it safer .. thumbs up for that happening ... asap!

the cars are lined up at all the other restaurants on the stretch not just Cyrils. They all face the same wetland issues and ceptic problems. Why is it Cyrils is being singled out?

Until East Hampton enforces laws it has, and stops granting variances or requests no matter who makes them (whether old guard OR new), Montauk every summer will remain the place that families won't want to come to, as they used to. DO NOT give Cyril's the ok to expand. Why do we have to look so trashy every summer?

Since parking seems to be an issue for not only Cyril's, but other businesses as well, why not construct a parking lot or garage in an area which is not endangering the environment? A shuttle could then bring patrons to these establishments. The cost could be shared by the businesses it would serve and potentially bring in customers who would have otherwise been unable to find parking.
