5 Things Rona Klopman Wants Voters To Know

East Hampton Town Trustee candidate shares her views.

East Hampton Patch has asked all the candidates to write up five points voters should know about them as they head to the polls on Nov. 8. Here's what Rona Klopman, a for , wants you to know about her.

1. As chairperson and chice chair of the Amagansett Citizens Advisory Committee, for a total of five years, and president of the Amagansett East Civic Association (310 homes in Beach Hampton), I champion our historic right to public access to our beaches and common land.

2. As an avid East Hampton Town Board and Trustee watcher I feel that there should be more constructive interaction between the two agencies and the citizens of East Hampton who come to the Trustees for help with beach erosion issues. Action and responsible  resources should be addressed so there are allocations for appropriate dredging, shoreline protection and beach restoration. I don't believe in guess work.

3. As one who has sat at many trustee meetings there should be more accountability and transparency to the citizens of the Town-no Trustee should sleep on the job and all the meetings should be taped.

4. I intend to propose, if elected, to have educational forums on the specific duties and responsibilities of the Trustees so all citizens can be educated about what the job of the Trustees is all about. Applications should be expedited and land use issues investigated in a timely manner.

5. On a personal note I am an extremely active person- I play tennis, go to the gym, walk the beach. I have two married children, four grandchildren and two grand-dogs.

Rona I have to say it's in pretty poor taste to use this forum to advertise your candidacy ,ask for questions and then refuse to answer questions. The last sentance of your ad says if you have any questions ask. What do you have to hide!!!!!!
Rona Klopman October 18, 2011 at 01:20 PM
People who ask questions deserve an answer when you know who you are talking to. I answer any question when the person does not use an alias, but their real name. It's rude not to talk face to face or name to name.
Bonac Refugee October 18, 2011 at 01:24 PM
That is not what your ad above says.It has no disclaimer as to who's questions you would answer.Did you not know the Patch format when you agreed to this!

Looks like Ms. Klopman will be getting Ken Silverman and Bernie Kiemboks votes.
MARTIN DREW October 18, 2011 at 04:10 PM
Ms Klopman ; gooday to you . We know who I am ; i could ask again my question ; its ok IF YOUR answer is no . Stand WITH YOUR OPINION. ; we just need to know the position YOU take . Driving on the beach ; do YOU support that topic? Access - pedestrian ONLY ; do you support beach access ONLY in this respect ? Be direct and to the point for me please ? Honesty is integrity as the day is long ; YOUR opinion may win you votes after all is said and done ; good luck winning sitting on a fence ...;-)
MARTIN DREW October 18, 2011 at 04:21 PM
PS - I am a registered (B)lank voter ; tell me like it IS. I can handle it . May not vote for you; but will know where you stand on BEACH DRIVING as a issue . I know things change : I suffer daily the loss of a cherished local tradition ; access with motorized vehicles in our tiwn trails system . ( 300 miles for "them"; not 1 inch for me ) ... So I say ; I support Beach Driving ; it doesn't mean the reality to do so will remain. ; If indeed you hang wirh others who could care less about my cherished local culture and tradition(s) ; I know what CfAR faces in this lawsuit ; people who decided their agenda outweighs "public benefit " ..... IF you want a public job ; say "yes" If you want special interest political job ; say "no" truly a simple way of looking at the beach driving issue ..
Rona Klopman October 18, 2011 at 05:46 PM
Martin, I appreciate that you use you name.........it's refreshing and I know you have said this many times on blogs. For the record "I SUPPORT PUBLIC ACCESS TO OUR BEACHES for fisherman, vehicles, pedestrians and for all residents." Does that put the question to rest??????
sloppy October 18, 2011 at 10:32 PM
Mrs. Klopman -- is it true you removed two Wilkinson signs from the public right of way at the intersection of Bluff Road and Mako Lane today at 12:31 PM and put them in your car? Be very careful how you answer because proof is proof. And don't give a lame response that you don't answer questions to people who don't identify themselves by name, because there are people willing to go on the record.
J October 18, 2011 at 11:00 PM
Answering questions with questions doesn't put the the thing to rest. If other members of your group voted to place security guards restricting access to the beach near your house, why not just say so (I know you won't answer the question because I don't have my named fully spelled out)? What is the harm in saying that a majority of your neighbors voted to restrict access but you didn't. That would END the debate on the question. Heck you could even say a few years ago you did vote for it, but you've since changed your position. At least everyone would know whether you voted to restrict access to the beach in the past but that you've changed your position. More harm comes from not answering questions than actually answering them. Until then, you leave it up to everyone just to infer from what you say and that doesn't help anyone.
MARTIN DREW October 18, 2011 at 11:56 PM
Thank you Ms. Klopman for your answer . Good luck .
sloppy October 19, 2011 at 12:48 AM
Martin -- the behavior I reported and questioned Mrs. Klopman's about is extremely important because taking someone's signs down is a statement on character, honesty and fair play. I was told those signs were put up by a property owner who lives right at that intersection and they have been there for over a week. So Mrs. Klopman, did you steal the signs? And by the way you did not answer Montaukman's question, which was if the beach riding case is lost by the Town and Trustees will you support our local residents using the beach area along Marine Blvd. The Trustees and the Town Board can fashion a local law that allows vehicles to access at Napeague Lane and follow a path along the toe of the first due for 300 feet west until the open beach area is reached and then allow riding a parking down to 300 feet east of Atlantic Avenue? That is the question. If you support full beach access the answer is obvious. What is your answer -- to both questions.
Montaukman October 19, 2011 at 03:32 AM
Obviously she can't answer right now, she must be recycling Republican signs.
Carole Campolo October 19, 2011 at 03:51 AM
Wait! Ms. Klopman never answered my questions from Friday. And those were exactly what was her role as President of the Amagansett East Association that wanted to limit access to her private beach by hiring private security guards to prevent people like me from Springs, from using her beach. Also, she never answered my question about what she thought of her running mate, Sylvia Overby, Queen of Mean and/or Miss Beach Access East Hampton, 2011 belonging to a similar association, Gansett Dunes, that has a sign posted on her private beach that says Private Property, No trespassing. So, are they for beach access for all or just a selected few? Are they for beach driving? Those of you who saw last night's debate will note that the words beach driving never really passed anyone's lips but Bill Wilkinson in the affirmative. He believes in beach access for all that means driving as well as he does almost every night. I know Overby avoided that phrase like a 7-Eleven. Zach, what say you? Peter Van S., you too, buddy. Drive or no drive?
Bill Graham October 19, 2011 at 04:43 AM
Plain and simple. Rona, do you believe that the beach access in the dunes aka beach hampton should be for everyone that resides there? Yes, I know for the ones that pay their dues to AEA but once that is done it should be for everyone who owns in this neighborhood, yes?
Rona Klopman October 19, 2011 at 02:37 PM
Hi Bill, I believe that beach access is for EVERYONE!!!! Hope this puts the issue to rest!
Montauk Lighthouse October 20, 2011 at 06:43 PM
If you believe in beach access for everyone why does your property owners association block pedestrian access to our beautiful PUBLIC beaches? Were you not the one who posted guards to your beach access. You are the president of your association are you not. I do know that there are other property owner associations that own deeded rights for access to the beach. For instance the MBPOA along Old Montauk Hwy in Montauk requires a permit to park in their parking lot (very limited spaces) but does not prohibit pedestrians. Why do you?
Factual October 21, 2011 at 01:36 AM
Listen, based on the lead article on page 1 the whole Democrat ticket is full of phonies. They won't answer difficult questions, they "mislead" the public in campaign literature (actual lies by their Supervisor candidate Mr. Cohen), they steal signs, they run bogus ads about non-issues, they run candidates who are charged with human rights violations -- they ARE the party of McGintee.
MARTIN DREW October 23, 2011 at 06:02 AM
Factual - check your facts; the human rights accusations you speak of .... A NON issue .. You'll see .
MARTIN DREW October 23, 2011 at 06:18 AM
Chris Russo supports Scott King For Highway Super .. So do I ! Cohen- advantage Wilkinson Overby - up in the air Van Scoyoc - Like his personality - very down to earth McGintee - iOLD news ... " We were warned" Haeg - this guy has credentials worthy of your vote thats for sure ..down to esrth as well ., Gaines - Buyer beware ... Behan - a well respected name / worth considering for sure Mott - From what I hear very driven to serve ; also worth considering for sure.. Drew- a shock and awe ; write in candidate - willing to upset party domination as a Blank.. The choice is yours ; status quo party domination or power to the people .. Occupy the voting booths en mass ; change is 4 words away ; Martin Drew For Supervisor !

Rona I would really like an awnser If you believe in beach access for everyone why does your property owners association block pedestrian access to our beautiful PUBLIC beaches? Were you not the one who posted guards to your beach access. You are the president of your association are you not. I do know that there are other property owner associations that own deeded rights for access to the beach. Knock Knock ... Hello Rona ... Anyone there? I would still appreciate an awnser to my inquiry that I have made twice. I will ask again simply - If you believe in beach access for everyone why does your property owners association, of which you are president, block pedestrian access to our beautiful PUBLIC beaches?
todd October 25, 2011 at 05:26 PM
Smiley.. what's your point? Are you saying that the public should have access to public beaches through private property? Interesting. I don't think anyone is arguing that extreme position. Beaches are public and accessible through public access.
Barry forde October 25, 2011 at 11:46 PM
Maybe you should apologize to the men of the highway department and our families before you ask for our votes. I can assure you all the human rights issues are real and I will Gladly show you all the harassment incident reports I personally filed including the police report I filed.when I was struck by the current highway superintendent. The bullying and mismanagement needs to stop!! Feel free to contact us about these issues we would love to talk about.
fatcat October 26, 2011 at 12:19 AM
Ms. Klopman - no posting since 10/19...is the campaign over?
Kevin Cobb October 27, 2011 at 12:55 AM
The men of the highway dept begged Ms Frankland Ms Klopman to meet with us and hear us out before nominating King. They refused. Mcgintee, King , Klopman
Kevin Cobb October 27, 2011 at 01:07 AM
The democratic party of East hampton should read the East Hampton Democratic mandate. Talk about the right TEMPERMENT for the job are you for real. The East Hampton Democrats need a new commitee if they ever expect to compete in todays East hampton
High Way Worker October 27, 2011 at 02:48 AM
I have been posting messages for several months saying essentially the same thing. The Dems don't get it and the guy they got runnig for supervisor and Ms. Klopman are buddies with King and empower king. Hopefully the public gets it from supervisor to the board to hiway superintendent. The Dems offer no hope, the Reps offer some hope.
Montaukman October 27, 2011 at 01:16 PM
If this is the case I wonder why the CSEA endorsed the Dems.

Thank you all for your participation, but it seems all sides have been heard. At the same time, making personal attacks and accusations goes against our terms of service so we are going to close comments on this post. Thank you.
