Village Police Logs: Southampton Man Allegedly Drove Drunk with 9 Suspensions

East Hampton Village police arrested three people on DWI charges this week.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Village Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• On Saturday, East Hampton Village police arrested Ricky Stewart, 46, of Southampton, who they said was driving drunk and with nine suspensions. According to police, they saw a 2006 Ford pick-up truck headed west on Montauk Highway, near Cove Hollow Road, crossing over the sold double yellow lines while also tailgating the vehicle in front of it.

Police pulled the truck over at about 3:35 a.m., and Stewart reportedly appeared intoxicated. He failed all field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol was allegedly above .18. A check with the State Department of Motor Vehicles showed his non-driver ID was suspended nine times over three dates.

Stewart was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the first-degree, a felony, aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, third-degree aggravated operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and following too closely, a violation. Arraigned later that morning, he was released on $1,500 bail.

• Dieter A. Harster, 32, of New York City, was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge after he was pulled over on Main Street in East Hampton Village on June 19 at about 10:40 p.m. Police said they saw his 2009 Honda Civic cross over the solid white line onto the shoulder of the road. Police said he appeared intoxicated. He failed several field sobriety tests.

• Anthony M. Morello, 21, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, on Montauk Highway in East Hampton Village on Friday at about 3:10 a.m. Police said they saw a 2010 Ford Focus driving erratically near Cove Hollow Road. They said it was traveling on the shoulder. Morello appeared intoxicated when police interviewed him and he failed all field sobriety tests, police said.
