Town Police Logs: Woman Threatened Police With Intoximeter

Kathleen A. Broman received some injuries when police said they pushed her onto the ground.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Kathleen A. Broman, 43, of Montauk, was charged with resisting arrest, as well as driving while intoxicated, on the afternoon of April 8, police said this week.

Police said they received an anonymous call of a drunk driver driving the parking lot at the at 4 p.m. The car was gone, but the officer canvased the area and found a car matching the description swerving south on Star Island Drive. After she pulled into the , Broman was pulled over by police.

Bronman allegedly refused to provide breath samples to police, and when she was told she was being placed under arrest at about 4:40 p.m., she began to flail her arms. The defendant grabbed the preliminary breath test device, that had been sitting on the roof of the car, and waived it about, the police report said.

"Unable to control the defendant and in fear of being injured by the Intoximeter, undersigned officer performed a take down movement by pulling the defendant's right arm down to the ground," the report said. "When the defendant fell to the ground, she struck the asphalt with her forehead and nose."

She reportedly continued to struggle until the handcuffs were on. The responded to assess her injuries and transported her, and the officer, to Southampton Hospital. Due to further medical evaluation, police released her with an appearance ticket at the hopsital. She refused a chemical test, police said.

Stolen Cellphone Leads to Arrest

Julio C. Carias-Cordova, 24, of Calverton, was charged with petty larceny after a worker at a Wainscott construction site reported a stolen Blackberry on Wednesday. He told police it disappeared on April 15 shortly after a delivery of SheetRock was made to the Osborn Farm Lane site.

Police contacted the company, who provided the names of the laborers. When the company made another a trip to Springs on Thursday, they confronted Carias-Cordova and arrested him. His brother, upon hearing of the arrest, found the cellphone and turned it into police, they said.

Lisa R. Rana arraigned Carias-Cordova the next morning and set bail at $5,000. He was turned over to the sheriff's office and is being held in Riverside.

More DWI Arrests

Claude U. Imaz, 53, of East Hampton, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, in Amagansett on Friday at 10:10 p.m. Police said they noticed her Volvo swerving on Montauk Highway, near Indian Wells Highway, at about 9:40 p.m. After being pulled over, her blood alcohol level measured above .18 percent, the threshold for an aggravated DWI charge. Justice Rana released her on her own recognizance.

Brett C. Bistrian, 19, of Amagansett, was also charged with DWI. Police said he was arrested on Saturday just after midnight as he drove a Jeep over 90 m.p.h. in a 55 m.p.h. zone on Montauk Highway near Shipwreck Road. He reportedly refused to submit to a breath test and was held overnight. Justice Rana released him the next day on his own recognizance.

Marcia Santiago, 25, of East Hampton, was charged with driving while intoxicated and driving with a suspended license on April 17 at about 11:50 p.m. Police were called to Gardiner Avenue for a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the middle of the road with its lights turned off. The vehicle ended up pulling into a driveway and police followed it and questioned Santiago, who was behind the wheel. She appeared drunk and her license had been suspended in 2008, they said. Justice Rana released her on her own recognizance the next day.
