Town Police Logs: Drunken Driver Held on $10K Cash Bail

Also: Another driver charged with DWI crashed into the Montauk gazebo.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• A Bellport woman is being held at the Suffolk County jail on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond after police said she drove drunk with a suspended license — and with no pants — on July 13.

Police said that while Shanika M. Dunmore, 33, was heading east on Montauk Highway at about 6:05 a.m. she drove her 1993 Toyota right up to a marked police unit's back bumper and stayed there for about one mile. She then swerved into the westbound lane with both driver's side tires and then across the shoulder. The officer pulled onto the shoulder and she pulled directly behind him.

According to the report, Dunmore was unable to answer simple questions. She had difficulty maintaining her balance after police asked her to step out of her car. She performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Dunmore was charged with misdemeanor DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, due to multiple suspensions. Her vehicle was impounded. East Hampton Justice Court Lisa R. Rana arraigned her later that morning.

•(Removed), was arrested on a drunken driving charge after he crashed into the gazebo in the middle of The Plaza in Montauk on July 14. Police said they found (Removed) Mercedes Benz partially in the bushes at about 1:25 a.m. He told police that he he had been drinking and was heading south at the intersection of The Plaza and Edgemere Road, but could not stop because of the wet pavement and first went through a fence, before hitting the bushes and gazebo, according to the accident report. He was not injured in the crash. Charged with misdemeanor DWI, he he was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.

• Lila E. Geyer, 32, of Springs, was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge, a misdemeanor, following an accident on July 13. Police said they responded to an accident on Springs Fireplace Road, near Gardiner Avenue, at about 11:40 p.m. They found a 1999 Dodge was struck by a 2005 Jeep Cherokee that had crossed over into the oncoming lane, they said. Police said the Jeep driver appeared intoxicated. Her blood alcohol was allegedly over .18, leading to the elevated charge. She was held for arraignment in the morning and then released on her own recognizance. No one was hurt in the accident.

Cops Say They Saw Mugger in the Act

• A 22-year-old Montauk man was arrested after police said they saw him reach into a woman's purse outside of the Memory Motel in Montauk on July 13 at about 2:30 a.m. Police said he had three cellphones on him when they investigated what was going on. He was ultimately charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth-degree, a misdemeanor. Justice Rana released him on $300 bail.
