Town Police Logs: Accidents Lead To Arrests

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

The following arrests were released for the week of Jan. 30:

• Danny S. Verdugo-Nieto, 32, of East Hampton, was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge after an accident in Springs on Jan. 22 at 2:40 a.m. Police said they found a 1996 Ford van had crashed into a tree on the side of Three Mile Harbor Road, near Gann Road, but that the driver had fled the scene. The officer found footprints in the snow leading to a nearby residence. Verdugo-Nieto allegedly took off after he saw the office and after a short foot pursuit, he surrendered himself by putting his hands in the air and getting down on his knees. He was arrested and taken to headquarters, where he complained of knee pain. He was taken to Southampton Hospital for treatment of a knee injury and cuts above his eye. He was released and taken back to headquarters, held overnight, and arraigned in East Hampton Justice Court later that morning. Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on $1,000 bail.

• Christian P. Beruzueta, 27, of East Hampton, was also arrested and charged with DWI after an accident. On Jan. 19 at 5:54 p.m., police were called to Cedar Street, near Cooper Lane, for an accident involving three cars at the intersection. Beruzueta's license had already been suspended for a DWI charge on Oct. 9, 2011. His Pontiac Grand Am was impounded. Meanwhile, he was held on $5,000 bail following an arraignment before Justice Rana.
