SUV Rolls Over on Montauk Highway in East Hampton

Two adults, two babies taken to Southampton Hospital for precaution.

Two babies and two women were left unscathed or with minor injuries after the sport utility vehicle they were riding in rolled over on Montauk Highway at Stephen Hands Path in East Hampton on Wednesday afternoon, according to police on scene.

A blue Ford Freestyle hit a sign while traveling west at about 3:15 p.m., East Hampton Village Police Officer Chris Jack said at the scene. The driver tried to compensate and rolled over, he said.

No one was seriously injured, the officer said, but the driver and the passengers were taken to Southampton Hospital for precaution.

Chief Jerry Larsen said the department was still investigating the cause.

The East Hampton Fire Department was called out to the scene, reportedly to extricate the occupants from the vehicle and turn to the vehicle over so it could be towed away.

Traffic on Montauk Highway was backed up in both direction for about a half-mile. Police cleared the scene around 4:15 p.m.
