Springs Man Charged with Felony DWI

East Hampton Town police make several DWI arrests in recent weeks.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• James J. Brennan, 60, of East Hampton, was arrested on a felony drunken driving charge in Springs on Aug. 21. Police said they saw him on Springs Fireplace Road, near Harrison Avenue, crossing over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic. Police said he appeared drunk. They found he had a previous conviction within the past 10 years. He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, and also aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, for reportedly having a blood alcohol level above .18.

• James M. McNulty, 29, of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., was arrested on a drunken driving charge in Montauk on Aug. 24 at about 4:05 a.m. Police said they saw him in a 2013 Hyundai yelling out his driver's side window at three men whom he was seen having an argument with earlier that night. Officers approached the men to try and defuse the situation. McNulty turned off the ignition and got out of car, but police said he appeared intoxicated. He was charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, for allegedly having a blood alcohol level above .18. He was released on $350 bail.

• Carlos G. Bermeo-Beletanga, 29, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge in Springs on Aug. 21 at about 1:15 a.m. Police said they saw a white van on Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road whose driver was applying the brakes for no apparent reason. He then crossed over the double-yellow lines. When trying to make a right turn onto Copeces Lane, he drove off onto the dirt shoulder, almost hitting a stop sign, police said. He then stopped the car, backed up and continued driving before police pulled him over. After morning arraignment, he was released on $350 bail.

• Christopher J. Bottari, 44, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge in Montauk on Aug. 23. According to police, his 2011 Jeep failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of South Edison Street and Montauk Highway, and he failed to maintain his lane, crossing over the double-yellow lines for about a quarter of a mile. He was placed under arrest at about 1:20 a.m.
