Search Reveals Beer Can, Weed During DWI Arrest, Cops Say
Also: A woman was arrested after she refused to leave the Gig Shack in Montauk.
The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.
• Donald A. Dalbora, 43, of Montauk, was arrested after he was found driving drunk with a suspended license on Sept. 24, police said. Dalbora was traveling north on Essex Street in a 1999 Ford Mustang when he failed to maintain his lane of travel, and crossed over the double-yellow line into the opposite lane, and then travelled down the middle of the road, taking up both lanes, at about 12:35 a.m. He then moved back into his lane, but while going around a bend, he moved into the opposite lane, again, until he turned onto South Fairview Avenue.
When police pulled him over, they found a 24-ounce can of Budweiser beer behind the driver's seat. Dalbora got out of the car before police asked him to do so. He appeared intoxicated, police said.
His driving privileges had been suspended for failure to pay child support in 2011. While being placed under arrest, police said they found a small clear cellophane wrapper with a green, leafy substance that later tested positive for marijuana.
Dalbora refused to submit to an Intoxilyzer at police headquarters. He requested medical attention for pain in his knees. Police took him to Southampton Hospital, where he was treated and released back into police custody.
He was arraigned later that morning on charges of driving while intoxicated and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third-degree, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was released on $300 bail.
• Elizabeth K. Lesar, 50, of New York City, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, on Sept. 29 at about 2:15 a.m. Police said she was driving a 2013 Chrysler sedan west on Montauk Highway, near Windmill Lane, in Amagansett, without headlights at about 1:50 a.m. She also reportedly crossed into the opposite lane three times, before police pulled her over. She stopped her car in road, before starting again and slowly pulling onto the north shoulder. Police said she appeared intoxicated. Held until morning arraignment, she was released on $350 bail.
• Joao P. Casagranide, 25, of East Hampton, was arrested on an aggravated DWI charge, a misdemeanor, after he was pulled over in Wainscott on Sept. 29 at about 3:10 a.m. Police said he was driving a 2004 Jeep east on Montauk Highway, near Townline Road, when he failed to stay in his lane, and crossed into the shoulder several times. He was stopped near Georgica Drive. He appeared intoxicated, and as he was being arrested, he became frustrated and upset, police said. They said he intentionally hit his head on the divider of the police unit, causing a cut above his left eye. He was released on $300 bail after arraignment.
• John T. Siedlarz, 48, of East Hampton, was also charged with aggravated DWI. Police said he was going over 70 mph in a 2008 Ford pickup truck west on Pantigo Road on Sept. 30 at about 12:50 a.m. The speed limit is 40 mph. Police were traveling in the opposite direction and turned around to pursue the Ford, which continued driving fast even as the speed limit dropped to 30 mph, near Accabonac Road, which is where police activated their emergency lights. Sidlarz allegedly continued driving fast and crossed over into the shoulder, nearly striking the grassy median west of Methodist Lane. He came to a stop at the traffic light at the corner of Main Street and Newtown Lane in the village. Police said he appeared intoxicated and was arrested at about 1:15 a.m.
• A 47-year-old Montauk woman was arrested after she was asked to leave a bar and refused, even fighting police officers when they tried to place her under arrest. Police were called to the Gig Shack on Montauk Highway in Montauk on Sept. 27, just before midnight. Police told her she had to leave, but she refused. While attempting to escort her out, the woman — whom police said was highly intoxicated — she pulled away from police. Two officers tried to forcibly remove her, and she kicked and pushed them, police said. She was told she was being charged with second-degree harassment, a violation, and she flailed her arms about and struggled with the officers. She was additionally charged with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor. She was released on $750 after arraignment.
• A 17-year-old from Springs was arrested after a two-car accident down the road from East Hampton High School on the afternoon of Sept. 27 because, according to police, he didn't have a license or permission from the owner to drive the 2002 Dodge pickup truck. Police were called to the intersection of Stephen Hands Path and Long Lane at about 3:45 p.m. The driver of the Dodge said looked down at his cellphone that was ringing and went through a stop sign on Long Lane, hitting a 2009 Mitsubishi in the northbound lane. The 28-year-old driver and her two passengers, a 22-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl, were taken to Southampton Hospital. The teenager was not hurt. He was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and unlicensed operation, a violation, at 4:20 p.m. He was released on his own recognizance and will be arraigned on Oct. 9.
