Update, 9 p.m.: An elderly man died in a house fire in Sag Harbor Village on Monday afternoon, police confirmed on Monday night. Sag Harbor Village Police Officer Robert Drake said the man had passed away and that the Suffolk County Police Arson squad were still at 14 Hillside Drive East, conducting an investigation. Detective Jeff Proctor, who is also investigating, was at Southampton Hospital. Police have not released the man's name yet.
Update, 5 p.m.: Police and fire marshals, including the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad, are investigating a fire at 14 Hillside Drive East in Sag Harbor Village on Monday afternoon, after one person was discovered inside the house.
An adult male was reported inside the residence that was ablaze, Sag Harbor Village Police Chief Thomas Fabiano said on Monday evening. "He was found in one of the bedrooms and he was transported to Southampton Hospital," Fabiano said.
He did not have information on the man's condition. The Sag Harbor Fire Department knocked down the fire within 10 to 15 minutes of arriving on scene. Village police detectives and the East Hampton Town fire marshal's office are on scene and the arson squad are on its way to help investigate the cause. Fabiano said that it was normal procedure to have the arson squad respond to help determine the origin of he fire. Previously, 3:50 p.m.: The Sag Harbor Fire Department is responding to a house fire on Hillside Drive East in Sag Harbor Village on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to the fire, in a single-story house at 14 Hillside Drive, off Hillside Drive in the Sag Harbor Hills subdivision at 3:42 p.m.
The East Hampton Fire Department was requested to respond with its Rapid Intervention Team at about 3:50 p.m.
The Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.
The East Hampton Town Fire Marshal was also notified.
