Police: The Town of East Hampton Blotter


The East Hampton Town Police have reported the theft of $10,000 from an electric keypad safe at 31 Lafayette Place, in East Hampton.

The burglary occurred sometime between July 5, when the money was placed in the safe, and July 15, when the money was reported missing by the residents of 31 Lafayette Place, Alexander Colonna, 63, his wife Connie, 58, and their daughter Anna, 27.

The safe had been pried open, but there were no signs of forced entry into the residence.

The East Hampton Town Police did a canvass of the neighborhood and reported the theft to the detective’s division. The investigation is ongoing.

On July 1, the East Hampton Town Police received a report of  a stolen handicapped parking permit and cellphone from a car that had been parked at 240 Edgemere Street in Montauk between the hours of 11:30 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon on June 26.

Jairam Jawahir, 74, of 26 South Eldert Street in Montauk, said that on June 26 he left his cellphone in the center console of his 2009 Suzuki automobile and the handicapped permit hanging from the rearview mirror, strolled away without locking the doors, and returned to find them missing. Jawahir stated that he does not know his cellphone number and has not tried to call it since he noticed it was missing.

On July 19, at 4:53 p.m. Courtney Kirsch, of 25 W. 19th Street in Manhattan, reported to the Town of East Hampton Police that her iPhone 5S had been taken from her handbag while she was at the Memory Motel in Montauk. Kirsch had locked her phone and tracked it from the Flamingo Avenue area and West Lake Drive, back to the vicinity of the Memory Motel where the phone had been turned off. Officers made a search of the area, but did not find the phone.
