Police: Plum Island Reports Suspicious Package

Wednesday night, at approximately 10:35, the Southold Town Police responded to a call from security at Plum Island reporting the receipt of a suspicious package delivered by UPS.

The Southold Town Police responded to the request and called in the Suffolk County Police for back-up.

Located in the Long Island Sound, Plum Island has been the subject of rumor as well as conspiracy theorists’ fantasies since its founding in 1954. The United States Department of Agriculture maintains the Plum Island Animal Disease Center there. The island is also the site of the former U.S. military installation Fort Terry and the historic Plum Island Lighthouse, built in 1827.
