Police Logs: Traffic Violation Leads to DWI Arrest

Town police report one DWI arrest in the weekly reports.

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department in the Dec. 30 packet. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• Nicholas Kraus, 41, of Springs, was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Saturday at about 3:40 a.m. Police said they observed Kraus on Abraham's Path, near the intersection of Springs Fireplace Road, with a defective passenger brake lamp. When he was pulled over at about 3:15 a.m., he appeared intoxicated, police said. He failed all field sobriety tests and was placed under arrested. At police headquarters, he refused to take a chemical test. Charged with two misdemeanors — driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol — he was released on his own recognizance later that morning.
