Police Logs: Driver Plows into Trees, Then Ditches Car

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• After he allegedly hit trees on Bull Path in East Hampton on Monday and fled the scene, Michael P. McDowell, 69, was arrested on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge. Police said they received a call about a vehicle in the roadway at about 12:20 a.m.

When an officer arrived, they found a 2007 Hyundai had struck numerous trees and the driver had ditched the car. The car received "severe front end and driver's side damage," an accident report said.

A check with the State Department of Motor Vehicles showed the car belonged to McDowell, who lives near the accident scene. Police said they found him at his house and he appeared drunk.

An East Hampton Village Volunteer Ambulance responded and took him to Southampton Hospital due to facial injuries. He refused medical attention and was released into police custody. He was held overnight at police headquarters and arraigned in East Hampton Justice Court on Monday. He was released on his own recognizance.

Domestic Incident

• Jose B. Maria, 24, of East Hampton, is being held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside in lieu of $15,000 cash or $150,000 bond after a domestic incident on Feb. 12. According to police, Maria allegedly punched an unidentified woman, who, they said, had a contusion and noticeable swelling on the left side of her face. Maria returned to the woman's house after police arrived, and he was taken into custody at about 6 p.m. He was charged with acting in a manner injurius to a child under 17, a misdemeanor, (there was a child present during the alleged altercation), and harassment in the second-degree, a violation. East Hampton Town Justice Catherine A. Cahill set the bail at his arraignment the following day.

DWIs

• Angel A. Farez-Chimbo, 22, of East Hampton, was arrested on a drunken driving charge on Feb. 14 at about 1:10 a.m. Police said he was driving a 1998 Saturn when he crossed over the double yellow line on North Main Street in East Hampton. Police activated their headlights as Farez-Chimbo entered the village, but he continued west on Main Street. He eventually pulled over on Buell Lane. He was arrested on a DWI charge at 1:30 p.m. Held until arraignment, he was released on $250 bail.

• Page H. Raebeck, 44, of Springs, was arrested on a DWI charge on Feb. 16 in East Hampton. Police pulled her over on North Main Street in a Subaru that had a headlight out at about 12:40 a.m. She appeared intoxicated and performed poorly on field sobriety tests, police said. Justice Rana released her on $350 bail later that morning.
