Police Log: Town P.D. Reports High-Speed Chase

The following information was supplied by the East Hampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

The following arrests were released for the week of Nov. 7-14:

Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing

Karen Dixon-German, 46, of East Hampton, was arrested on Nov. 10 on two reckless driving charges, and for allegedly fleeing a police officer unlawfully.

Police said they observed her taking a left turn from West Lake Drive onto Flamingo Avenue at a high speed and spinning her tires, and nearly hit a patrol car in doing so. According to reports, the patrol car immediately began following the vehicle while activating its lights and sirens, though Dixon-German accelerated over 100 miles per hour attempting to get away.

Police said she passed cars illegally and ran motorists off the roadway, continuing into South Euclid Avenue and South Embassy Street before pulling into Marshalls Service Station.

Police said that upon contacting her, Dixon-German appeared highly agitated and was uncooperative. She was arrested, transported to police headquarters, processed, and released on a $100 appearance ticket, with a return date of Nov. 30.

DWI

Brian Schlitt, 42, of Amagansett, was arrested on Nov. 11 on charges of DWI and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

According to police reports, Schlitt was witnessed driving 60 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone, and failed to maintain his travel lane by crossing over the white shoulder line. Police said that after a patrol car began to follow Schlitt, he maintained a speed of 60 miles per hour.

Reports state that upon being stopped, police noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Schlitt’s breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and his speech was slurred. Police said he performed poorly on all roadside sobriety tests.

Upon investigation, police said they found Schlitt’s license had been suspended twice in 1998 for failing to show for a summons.

He was arrested, transported to police headquarters, processed, and held for morning arraignment, when he was subsequently released on $350 bail.

DWI

Charles Turlinski, 64, of Amagansett, was arrested on Nov. 13 on DWI charges.

According to police reports, police responded to calls of a motor vehicle accident on Town Line Road near Accabonac Road near midnight. Upon police arrival, Turlinski was reportedly standing outside his vehicle with the keys still in the ignition.

Police reports state Turlinski had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, his eyes were glossy, and he was unsteady on his feet. Police said he failed all field sobriety tests.

He was arrested, transported to headquarters, held for morning arraignment, and later released on $250 bail.

Disorderly Conduct

Andrew Connors, 20, of Brooklyn, was arrested on disorderly conduct charges on Nov. 7.

Police said they responded to a call about an intoxicated person in front of D’Canela Restaurant, and upon making contact with Connors, police said he appeared highly intoxicated and uncooperative. Reports state that after police instructed Connors to sit on the sidewalk while they interviewed other individuals, he sat in the road with his back leaning on the squad car.

The owner of D’Canela’s reported that Connors, after walking into a restaurant with a beer in his hand and being refused service of alcohol, went outside and threw trash at the storefront.

Connors was arrested, transported to headquarters for processing, held for morning arraignment, and released on his own recognizance the next morning.
