Police Investigating Armed Robbery in East Hampton

Robber reportedly displayed handgun on the eve of Easter; Detectives on scene.

Police are searching for an armed robber who displayed a handgun at an East Hampton grocery store on Saturday night.

East Hampton Town police were called to the East Hampton IGA at 10:18 p.m., after a man reportedly robbed one victim with " a black Glock handgun," and then fled in a vehicle, according to an alert that was broadcast to neighboring police departments.

It was not immediately clear what the proceeds of the robbery were, and whether the robbery took place inside the grocery store or just outside of it. Police were not immediately available for comment.

The vehicle was last seen on Accabonac Road, heading south toward Montauk Highway.

The grocery store is located at 92 North Main St., on the corner of Collins Avenue. It is across from the East Hampton Village Emergency Services Building, which houses the village police department, but the grocery store is under town police jurisdiction.
