Police Investigating Armed Robbery in East Hampton

Robber reportedly displayed handgun on the eve of Easter; Detectives on scene.

Police are searching for an armed robber who displayed a handgun at an East Hampton grocery store on Saturday night.

East Hampton Town police were called to the East Hampton IGA at 10:18 p.m., after a man reportedly robbed one victim with " a black Glock handgun," and then fled in a vehicle, according to an alert that was broadcast to neighboring police departments.

It was not immediately clear what the proceeds of the robbery were, and whether the robbery took place inside the grocery store or just outside of it. Police were not immediately available for comment.

The vehicle was last seen on Accabonac Road, heading south toward Montauk Highway.

The grocery store is located at 92 North Main St., on the corner of Collins Avenue. It is across from the East Hampton Village Emergency Services Building, which houses the village police department, but the grocery store is under town police jurisdiction.

Detectives were responding to investigate.

Check back on East Hampton Patch for more information as it becomes available.

You are getting some degree of transparency. They told you were the crime took place and where the car was possibly seen. The rest is none of your business. Yours is the only power trip i have observed. Demanding what you feel is important. Get over yourself. You must live a lonely and angry life. CONSTANTLY questioning any opinion other than yours. NEVER relenting regardless of the validity of any response to your me me me BS. I think Hazel is looking for you. Nameless coward. So typical.

I really hope you are correct Alwaysslocal. Your attitude sucks and is totally unnecessary. I'm not going to get into a ego battle with you and discuss what I did for a living since there is no comparison. Instead of focusing on our differences lets embrace the only fact we share is that neither of us like that this went down in our community. I hope your correct and I'm wrong. I hope your maybe's are the facts. But if they are not and this escalates and a innocent person is victimized again by the perp before they are caught, than Maybe there should be a little more faith put in the community in achieving results for the common good. Happy Easter. Lighten up BTW.

ok...ViralGrain- listen, I dont have an attitude, I am REAL. I am at work today, because my job doesnt matter if its Easter, Christmas, or any other day for that matter! I cant and wounldnt tell you if the MAYBE's are facts. But I will tell you YOU ARE NOT GIVING ANT GOOD ADVICE. STAY out of it. and stay home then you know your safe, and stop you verbal vomit on patch because you sound stupid. Happy Easter, I am hoping you are having a holiday. maybe you will, one day realize that god for bid you had a REAL clue as to what goes on in this town crime wise, you would be too scared to leave your house or move. The civilian population is best not knowing. I PROMISE. What you do for a living I DO agree with you, no way would it compare to my line of work.

I seriously doubt that you people with anonymous screen names would be so obnoxious if you used your real names. You have waaayyy too much time on your hands! lol!!!
Alwayslocal March 31, 2013 at 07:08 PM
I do believe I tell it like it is Laura, no disrespect. But I do know what I am talking about in this instance. And I would never be alwolled to put my name on here. I am informed, and as local as local gets. I speak the truth. Happy Easter to you and yours.

You can go to Radio Reference.com and for 30 bucks a year listen to the whole robbery call. East Hampton police radio calls are archived there for a whole year. What goes over the air is public information. Don't let anyone you it's not. Personally, I would not waste my money to listen to this stuff. Happens thousands of times every night all over the country. Police are getting paid to solve it.

My goodness...SomeONE here sure does have too much time on his hands. There's hardly a story printed that Viral doesn't have a ton of words to use in response. One thing we do know is that he isn't/wasn't an English teacher or an author in his work. One can tell that by his incorrect spelling and use of punctuation. Viral, I'd like to say this: your paranoia is showing, and your 'what ifs' are not, in any way, helping anyone else to feel secure. Let the authorities do their jobs without your 'help' and let the reporters report the news as they see fit. Why don't you spend some time in an English book and learn the rules of the in writing English language? It would be time used far more efficiently than all of this drivel you feel you must post every other subject.
ViralGrain March 31, 2013 at 08:00 PM
I believe that if you are at work which you you say you are, and you seem to imply your job is perhaps paid for or provided by tax payers, you should focus on your job rather then surfing the net and verbally bashing people with your narrow minded rhetoric. I think your full of it personally and you shouldn't be portraying that you are anyone you are not. Go ahead get mad. However if you are "Real" as your say you are then you are way to over zealous. This isn't Hunts Point and if it was that attitude wouldn't work there either. This is the Hamptons. No need to come off like your on a episode of the WWF. Focus on you job your at instead of bickering with dumb dumbs like myself who's just weighting for dinner.

i have nothing left to lose since Leukemia. Like Crocodile Dundee did to a perp, that guy needs a can of beans to the hand (which was holding the gun) and then another can to the head. It that's not enough, how about a can of Woop-Ass to show him who is in charge around here. I have shopped there at IGA since childhood. I have nothing left to lose. Hope the culprit does not encounter me, a 50ish year old with Leukemia because I am NOT having NONE of that nonsense! No way, no how!
ViralGrain March 31, 2013 at 10:43 PM
Hope you can look past my incorrect spelling and use of punctuation and see my point. I'm no Einstein but he wasn't a good speller either. I don't think its paranoia pointing out the elephant in the room and learning from one another from discussion. If you can't respect other people's opinions and have to start name calling and using derogatory remarks, I can play that game also. Maybe some of you are more content living in a false sense of security and I'm so sorry I brought attention to the obvious. I apologize for asking what the description of the perp was. It was a stupid question in a ignorant world and deserved all the ridicule in the world. Hope it didn't disturbe your latte.
Gail Simons March 31, 2013 at 11:28 PM
RIGHT?!?! I've been told a few times (in real life) that I shouldn't speak up "on the Patch" because I do it under my real name. But that means that I stand by my words - and I would say the same things I say on here to anyone in person. No hiding behind a screen name! Can't stand that so many people on here do - and then rip each other apart. So cowardly.
Alwayslocal April 01, 2013 at 12:02 AM
Latte and bon bon's, in bed served by my staff.... LOL LOL LOL I am a an employe that works shift work, around the clock. little time off, no vacations, i wear a uniform PROUDLY. so your comment was the most ignorant thing i have scene all day! and this easter sunday as i worked, giving help, to people, seeing disturbing things, and not seeing my family because i have a duty. VIRALGRAIN.... i hope to never speak to you again. and if i come across who you are in life i hope we do not speak. live on healthy and happy in your spectacular life. dont respond.
Kathleen & Mike April 01, 2013 at 12:08 AM
Viral: Your opinion, your point was made perfectly clear in your first comment. That probably would have sufficed, rather than engaging in a war of the words. It is the opinion of most of us that we will hear the details as we need them and as the investigation is more than just 'breaking news'. I, for one, am not ignorant, nor would I express that sentiment about any of those who have left comments above. I hope you can relax your mind and find something positive to think about while the work on this and other situations is done by those who know what they are doing. I leave you with this thought, attributed to Mark Twain, and please know that I am not calling you any names. We ALL should pay attention to this bit of wisdom and wit. "It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.'' Mark Twain (by the way, I don't even drink latte)

Appreciated and well taken. Guess now is not the time to ask about the other article in Patch rite now if a plan is at least in the works to start charging insurance companies and individuals for medical transport to help pay for the new paid EMS and strengthen our medical response abilities. Or is the free ride just going to continue on the back of volunteers and tax payers for ever. Sorry I'm just wondering if its time to sell.
Ellen Cooper April 01, 2013 at 01:41 AM
Totally agree with you and Gail
Blanca Femina April 01, 2013 at 02:56 AM
well said. here, here.
Art Lynch April 01, 2013 at 05:20 AM
ViralGrain: Certainly, you have a right to be concerned. However, if you're really thinking about selling because of "crime" in East Hampton, I suggest, with all due respect, that you check out the news media here, then compare the results with other, larger areas, e.g., western Suffolk and Nassau Counties, New York City (any borough), etc. With all the problems East Hampton may have, I think you will find that there are few, if any, alternatives to what you have here in terms of safety and security. Obviously, your input here on Patch has not been barred by the editor/s, even if you experience what you may see as disagreeable responses. Outside of the (often universal) rather juvenile habit of some to rattle others' chains by mocking grammar, spelling and/or typing skills rather than staying on the subject at hand. There's no such thing as universal agreement on anything in this day and age. You should feel free to express your opinions here. If you can't, then none of us can. A.J. Lynch

ViralGrain, perhaps it is time for you to sell...
I H April 01, 2013 at 01:17 PM
It is not as simple as you want to believe it is on charging insurance companies. 1. Tax payers are still charged taxes for coverage by the ambulance district even if it is charged to insurance 2. By charging insurance companies you will need to hire a experienced staff who knows the rules and regulations of this... multiply this by 6 districts thats alot of staff and money. They also have to go thru training every year from the govt on medicare and medicaid, then you will also need the software and to train the departments members how to record all this information in order to be able to charge the patients. Then what if the people have no insurance? They still have to pay... and rates can get very expensive... The rates in VT are around $350.00 for a Basic Life Support Transport and $11.00 a mile plus what you use on the patient. Advanced Life Support Base Rates can be in the $700.00 range before any interventions.

Just one minor correction ... the employee suffered a concussion.
Diane Van Slyke April 03, 2013 at 11:28 PM
I'm thinking the Police are doing the best they can with the information they have, which I believe is not being broadcasted for a reason, We know that a robbery has taken place, an armed robbery, I feel that should be enough information at this point to keep your guard up, espicially buisness owners. I'm sure when they, the police, have something to tell us that is of value, they will. I'm thinking, if I were the one who had a gun pointing at me, how much information would I be able to pass along to the police, not sure, probably be too busy shaking out of my shoes and being grateful to be alive.
