Aguanno requested and Justice Lisa R. Rana set Lopez's bail at $1 million.

, an East Hampton attorney represented Lopez and did not request a lower bail. She also waived his 180.80 day, which allows for up to six days for an indictment before a defendant has to be released from jail. It did not appear he would be posting bail. He will be held at the Suffolk County jail in Riverside.

Lopez hung his head during the arraignment, wearing a gray t-shirt and red striped chef's pants. His attorney told him that although he said he understands English, she wanted to be sure he understood the proceedings and she requested a Spanish interpreter. He is originally from Ecuador.

Caleca told the court her client is a married father and has been living in East Hampton for 10 years. She said he has worked as a chef for four years at Nichol's restaurant in East Hampton and had previously worked for six years at another restaurant.

The justice also issued stay-away orders of protection for the victims.

After the proceeding, two family members were visibly upset; a man, who did not identify himself, was in tears.

Detective Anderson said the investigation is continuing. "We're not shutting the door on this one," he said, adding he encourages any other victims or people with information to come forward.
