On International Firefighters' Day, Thank A Firefighter

Remember firefighters no longer with us, or show gratitude for a firefighter you know.

In honor of International Firefighters' Day, which is observed today, May 4, East Hampton Patch wanted to extend a big thank you to all firefighters residing in the Town of East Hampton.

Whether you work as a paid firefighter or you are a volunteer — and we know a few people who are both — you deserve a shout out for your dedication. Rushing toward flames when most are running in the opposite direction is not for everyone. You are some of the bravest people living in our community. Thank you for all the hours of training, hard work, and hours spent away from your families.

Firefighters were celebrated on May 4 across Europe because it the day of the Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. There's no reason why we can't honor our firefighters here too.

In the comments below, we ask that you thank a firefighter that you know. Whether it's because they are close to you or because they helped you in your time of need, show your gratitude. We welcome you to all remember firefighters who are no longer with us. Remember their service, as well.
