New Justice Puts on the Robes and Gets To Work
Steven Tekulsky will be arraigning defendants this weekend, and even presiding over his first marriage ceremony on Saturday.
East Hampton Justice Steve Tekulsky presided over court proceedings for the first time on Wednesday.
Tekulsky, who was elected to the position in November, filled in for Justice Lisa R. Rana on her traffic violations calendar, the week before he begins his two-week on, two-week off rotation.
"I felt very comfortable, owing to my years of experience from the other side of the bench and the excellent support I received from Judge [Catherine] Cahill and Judge Rana while sitting alongside them, as well as from the Justice Court clerks and Court Officers," Tekulsky said.
Rana and Cahill, who retired at the end of 2013, had invited Tekulsky to sit with them on the bench to help ease him into his new role. He was sworn in last week.
"I am looking forward to my first full week, starting with arraignments on Saturday and Sunday as well as the opportunity to preside at a wedding on Saturday," Tekulsky said.
