UPDATE: 5 Departments Fight Mulch Fire in Sag Harbor Sandpit

Fire was first reported on Saturday night around 9:30 p.m.

Update, Monday:  27east.com reported that the Southampton Town Zoning Board of Appeals decided Thursday to revoke the portion of Wainscott Sand & Gravel's certificate of occupancy that allows mulching operations.

Update, 1 a.m.: Firefighters have knocked down the blaze and have returned to their respective fire houses. 

Update, 11:30 p.m.: Tankers from and Southampton fire departments were called to the scene of a brush fire at the Wainscott Sand & Gravel sandpit on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor boarder.

Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor fire departments have fighting the fire that started in a large pile of mulch for about two hours already.

The brush fire was discovered after heavy black smoke was reported in the area at about 9:30 p.m.

chiefs investigate the call, which was reported from their district, and found the smoke was coming from the Wainscott Sand & Gravel pit. The nearly 50-acre sand mining facility is located at 585 Middle Line Highway, off Millstone Road, on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor boarder, which is in 's fire district.

A mulch pile was reportedly ablaze.

Bridgehampton and North Sea tanker trucks were requested to knock down the fire.
