Missing Man Found Asleep at Closed Hotel

More than 100 police and fire personnel were involved in the search for Jacob Goldfarb, a 22-year-old who was in need of medical attention.

Jacob Goldfarb, the on Sunday, was discovered sleeping in a hotel room under renovation in Shinnecock Hills, said.

Volunteer members of the located Goldfarb inside the closed at about 1:40 p.m., not far from where his car had been found. The transported him to for medical evaluation. "Investigation is continuing as to the events and circumstances surrounding this incident," police said.

At times, more than 100 police and fire personnel were searching for Goldfarb. Police said he was in need of medical attention, though they would not confirm what type of illness he has.

Nearly two hours after Goldfarb was found, police explained that their investigation began when a Shinnecock Hills resident reported a suspicious vehicle on Saturday at 7:40 p.m. Goldfarb had been driving the car, but could not be found. While looking for him, police officers, along with a New York State Police K-9 unit, found several pieces of clothing behind a house.

Town police brought in the Suffolk County police aviation unit, police and more town officers to search for Goldfarb until about 5:30 a.m.

The search team then reorganized. "The search area was extended to include from the west at the Shinnecock Canal, to the south at Shinnecock Bay, to the east to Tuckahoe Lane and to the north to Peconic Bay," police said in a statement.

More help was brought in to cover the expanded search area. The Southampton Town Bay Constables, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police, Tribal Security from the , , North Sea Fire Department, and Flanders-Northampton Ambulance Woodland Rescue Team, all helped looked for Goldfarb.
