Makeshift Memorial Marks Teen's Tragic Death

Flowers left near where Anna Lytton was struck on Saturday.

While the community is still reeling from the death of 14-year-old Anna Lytton, a makeshift memorial has sprung up near where she was struck while riding her bicycle in East Hampton Village on Saturday.

On Monday night, mourners gathered, including some of her classmates, at the corner of Gay Lane and Pantigo Road, near where the accident occurred. Flowers were left near a "No Parking" sign at the busy intersection.

Anna died at Stony Brook University Hospital on Saturday, where she was flown following the accident. No criminal charges are being filed against the driver, Maria Brennan, 73, of East Hampton, though she was issued a ticket for "failure to exercise due care."

Meanwhile, Anna's family is planning a service for her this weekend. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made, in the future, to a fund for the arts that Anna's mother, Kate Rabinowitz, is developing in her honor.
