UPDATE: Incumbents Win, No Surprises in Fire Commissioner Elections

Low voter turnout for uncontested races.

The four men who were didn't have any trouble winning re-election on Tuesday night. They have all been elected to five year terms.

As in most uncontested elections on the South Fork, voter turnout was extremely low. But, in Bridgehampton, 50 people came out to cast a ballot for a single man. Fred Wilford was re-elected to serve his fifth term. A 20 year member of the board of fire commissioners, he also is a 33 year member of the Sagaponack School District.

In Montauk, a newcomer was elected. Vincent Carillo, a longtime resident and business owner, received 37 of the 44 votes cast.

Terri Czeczotka, the district secretary-treasurer, said one ballot was spoiled, while four others, including Carillo's sister-in-law, were written-in. Jaime Carillo actually receives at least one vote a year, Czeczotka said. Chief Robert Gosman, Mike Mirros, and Richard Cannon also received one vote each.

Carillo will serve along with Ed Sullivan, Joseph Dryer, Carmine Marino, and Dick White. Tom Dess, the current chairman, had decided not to seek reelection.
