Grinch Swipes Trees, Steals Presents in East Hampton Village

About $10,000 in silver and china reported stolen a Georgica Road house last week.

East Hampton Village police received two reports last week of Christmas-related crime — someone stole Christmas trees and presents from in front of John Papa's restaurant in the Reutershan's parking lot in two separate incidents.

An Amagansett woman reported her Christmas presents had been stolen from her father's car in front of the Park Place restaurant on Dec. 15. She didn't file a report until two days left, but told police it occurred around 8 p.m. The presents were worth $187.86, according to the report. She told police her father may have forgotten to lock the car.

Two small Christmas trees were stolen from in front of the restaurant, according to the management, which called police on Sunday morning. The trees were worth about $200, and they were about two to three feet high.

$10k in Silver, China Gone

Also on the logs, on Dec. 21, a resident of Georgica Road reported a 12-person silver flatware set along with 20 pieces of silver serving items and several pieces of fine china, worth a total of about $10,000, had been stolen. The complainant told police he noticed the silver missing from his basement in early May. A Prada cocktail dress, worth $500, was also reported stolen. Police said numerous people had access to the basement, and that the man had decided to fire them all. The case was turned over to detectives.
