Grand Jury Indicts Sabas Martinez on Attempted Murder

Accursed of shooting and stabbed his former girlfriend, Martinez remains in jail without bail.

Charges against Sabas Martinez, who is accused of in front of their children in Springs on Sunday, have been upgraded and he now stands charge of attempted murder.

According to the New York State Unified Court System website, a grand jury handed down an indictment on seven charges on Friday, including second-degree attempted murder, a charge that speaks to intent. Martinez will be arraigned on all the charges before William Condon on Thursday.

said that Martinez, 39, was waiting for Noemi Sanchez, 40, in her bedroom on Squaw Road when she came home at about 1:30 a.m. He allegedly shot her with an air rifle and stabbed her in the head with a kitchen knife before his daughters were able to convince him to let their mother go. He then cut his neck and wrists.

Martinez was also indicted on the charges brought against him after his arrest -- first-degree assault and first-degree burglary, both felonies, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors.

He is being held without bail at the in Riverside. He was not eligible for bail when he was arraigned on the lesser charges on Monday because, according to Catherine A. Cahill, he is a prior felony offender.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Bureau also have detained him. Martinez, who had been detained up until November, was out on bond, according to immigration spokeswoman Lori Dankers.
