Gas Leak Reported on Cedar Street

The leak started when a landscaping truck drove over an underground tank.

The East Hampton Police and Fire Department were on the scene of a gas leak reported on Cedar Street in East Hampton on Monday afternoon.

According to Tom Bono, chief of the East Hampton Fire Department, the leak started when a landscaping truck drove over an underground tank at about 2:45 p.m.

"I guess they didn't know the tank was there, drove over it and broke the valve," he said.

Emergency officials managed to secure the area until a gas company arrived with the help of an Amagansett Fire department truck that was used to fog the area to keep the fumes down.

The fire department was on scene until 4:30 p.m.
