Firefighters Will Put Out Kitchen Fires, Take Apart Cars at Open House Sunday

The East Hampton Fire Department will host an open house at the start of Fire Prevention Week.

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, which starts on Sunday, East Hampton firefighters will light some fires to demonstrate how to extinguish them.

During the East Hampton Fire Department's Open House on Sunday, members will show how to put out a stove fire in conjunction with this year's Fire Prevention Week theme of kitchen fires.

Children will also be able to check out fire trucks, take a ride in the tower ladder, and spray the fire hose. The heavy rescue squad will perform a vehicle extrication demonstration.

Kids will receive free fire prevention materials and gifts. Refreshments will be served.

The Open House takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse on Cedar Street in East Hampton.

Fire Prevention Week runs through Oct. 12.

Other fire departments are holding their own Open Houses, with similar activities, later in the week. The Bridgehampton Fire Department's is Oct. 12 and the Amagansett Fire Department's is Oct. 13.
