Firefighters Show Off Skills This Weekend

Open houses will take place Saturday and Sunday.

Several fire departments on the South Fork are hosting open houses this weekend, with opportunities for children and families to check out what firefighters can do.

The Amagansett, Bridgehampton, and Springs fire departments are inviting community members to their respective firehouses during National Fire Prevention Week.

Like the East Hampton Fire Department, which held an Open House on Sunday, firefighters in other districts will demonstrate how they can put out fires, let kids take turns at the nozzle on a fire hose, and, in some instances, see how a car gets taken apart during an extrication after an accident.

Members of the department's ambulance squads will be on hand, as well.

In Amagansett, the Masons are offering opportunities to get identification for children. The open house at the Amagansett Fire Department is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The firehouse is located at 439 Main Street in Amagansett.

The Bridgehampon and Springs fire departments are holding their open houses on Saturday. Bridgehampton's is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse on School Street in Bridgehampton, and the hours at the Springs firehouse on Fort Pond Boulevard are 10 a.m. to noon.
