East Hampton Town Police: Assault at Wolfie's Tavern

Jeffrey P. Kiger allegedly hit a woman as she was calling it a night.

Jeffrey P. Kiger, 38, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor assault charge on Nov. 21 for allegedly hit a woman earlier in the night at in Springs.

Police said the woman, who had reported the attack on Nov. 21 at about 12:15 a.m., had a swollen lip, a cut above her eye, and one of her teeth had been loosened. She told police as she was leaving Wolfie's on Nov. 20 at about 11:50 p.m., her former husband's friend, whom she identified as Kiger, had approached her. When he wouldn't leave her alone, she pushed him, she said. He then reportedly punched her in the face and head with a closed fist and pushed her to the ground. 

When police got to the bar, Kiger was already gone. Officers responded to his house in East Hampton. They said he was highly intoxicated and sitting on his couch, but refused to come to the door. Officers let themselves in through an unlocked door. He was arrested at about 1:10 a.m.

East Hampton Town Justice Lisa R. Rana arraigned him later that morning. He was released on her own recognizance.

The female victim was transported to Southampton Hospital to be evaluated for her injuries.
