The East Hampton Village police officer involved in an alleged sex scandal has submitted his resignation according East Hampton Village Administrator Rebecca Molinaro. The terms of the resignation are subject to ratification by the Village Board of Trustees which is set to meet Friday.
Officer Julio Mario Galeano, 31, an East Hampton Village police officer since 2004, was caught inside a house on Talmage Lane where he allegedly went for a romantic assignation on Dec. 30 of last year with a Jennifer Rosa who was a traffic control officer for the Village and had knowledge of where the key to the house was hidden. The two met without the permission of the owner.
According to a story in The East Hampton Star, the Police Benevolent Association will not fight a new law that eliminates the arbitration procedure.
TCO Rosa was fired from the police department in January and the Village Police suspended Galeano, as stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement between the village and the P.B.A. Hw denied the charges through the P.B.A.
Police Chief Gerard Larsen brought disciplinary charges against Galeano on Feb. 11. Soon afterwards, the village board adopted a local law on police discipline effectively eliminating the arbitration previously required and allowing for dismissal. At the same time, the board voted to suspend Galeano for 30 days without pay.
A petition was filed by the P.B.A. seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent the new local law from taking effect, but that petition was denied and Molinaro said on Tuesday that the P.B.A. has withdrawn its challenge of the new law.
