East Hampton Man Assaulted at Hampton Bays Diner

However, police say victim opted not to press charges.

An East Hampton man reported that he was attacked by several men in the parking lot of the sending him to the hospital as a result.

He told police he was defending a female friend when he was confronted by a male, and soon thereafter, several other males were punching and kicking him on Sunday morning at about 4.

After the fight was broken up, the man had a three-inch cut over his left eye. Police said he did not wish to press charges or assist them in finding the men who attacked him.

He was treated at Southampton Hospital and later released.

The landmark diner, located on Montauk Highway at the end of Route 24, has been no stranger to violent incidents in the past.

In 2011, an employee was arrested on a felony assault charge after reportedly waving a knife at his fellow co-workers, one of whom defended himself with a garbage can lid in a kitchen melee. Just one month after that, police arrested a duo after saying they robbed a woman in the parking lot around 2 a.m.

Most notably, the year prior, Calvin Butts – a Riverhead man – was stabbed to death in the parking lot of the diner.
