UPDATE: East Hampton, Amagansett Departments Called To Help in Water Mill Blaze

Now, seven fire departments fighting fire on Thursday evening.

East Hampton Fire Department was also called to a gas leak on Hedges Lane, off Lee Avenue, in East Hampton Village at 8:35 p.m., but were returned to service by 8:45 p.m.

Amagansett Fire Department's Rapid Intervention Team and interior firefighters were called to Water Mill to back up the other teams that had been called out earlier. The fire had been knocked down, but firefighters at the scene were conducting an overhaul of the house, looking for "hot spots."

Firefighters can only work for a certain amount of time, as their oxygen tanks will deplete, so back up is necessary.

Since an Amagansett engine is already standing by at Sag Harbor's fire headquarters, the was requested to Amagansett to man the firehouse.

Update 8 p.m.

An East Hampton Fire Department tanker was requested to the scene.

Original Story, 7:20 p.m.:

The was called to a Water Mill fire on Thursday evening.

Five other fire departments were already on scene at Jordan Drive, off of Edge of Woods Road, where a mansion was fully engulfed in flames.

The Southampton Fire Department had been called out when "a large glow" was reported in the area at about 6:50 p.m.

Southampton's Chief Rodney (Chip) Pierson had already requested tankers from North Sea, Hampton Bays and Bridgehampton. The and Hampton Bays Rapid Intervention Teams were also responding.

At about 7:20 p.m., East Hampton engine was requested.

Around 7:30 p.m., an East Hampton engine was also called to standby at Sag Harbor's headquarters and was called to standby at East Hampton's headquarters.
