Driver Arrested After Rollover in Amagansett; 3 Injured

BMW convertible carrying three flipped and struck trees on Cranberry Hole Road.

An accident in Amagansett on Saturday night injured three people and led to the arrest of the the driver, according to police.

East Hampton Town police said that Richard D. Forman, 49, of New York City, was driving a 2002 BMW convertible west on Cranberry Hole Road when he failed to negotiate a curve, near Bendigo Road, and lost control at about 10 p.m. The BMW overturned and struck multiple tress on the south side of the road.

The Amagansett Fire Department responded with its ambulance personnel and asked for helped from the Springs Fire Department ambulance.

A rear passenger was thrown from the convertible. A Medevac helicopter airlifted him to Stony Brook University Hospital. Police said early Sunday morning that he is in stable condition.

Forman was taken to Southampton Hospital for minor injuries. He was released and charged with driving while intoxicated. Police did not indicated whether he was charged with a misdemeanor or a felony. He is set to be arraigned on Sunday morning in East Hampton Justice Court.

A front seat passenger, whose name was not released, was also taken to Southampton Hospital. He is also listed in stable condition, police said.

Police said the BMW was impounded for a safety inspection. The investigation is continuing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575.
